Sheet 9: Hybrid design ideas (sketches)

Following on from the exploration of a range of ideas (in the previous two sheets), you now need to develop your design ideas.  You must show a progression (not more new ideas).  This means looking at your initial design ideas and deciding concepts to take further and which features to select to create hybrid designs.

It is still too early to develop the final design.  Think about the process being like the construction of a pyramid… the base contains the widest selection of ideas then, as you progress up the pyramid, the designs are increasingly refined (heading towards a final design).  You should try to include…
  • At least three concepts which have significant differences to each other
  • Clear links to earlier designs (emphasised through your annotation)
  • Clear references to your Specification (with annotation explaining how your developments are meeting points in your Specification more effectively)

*Most student are likely to use freehand sketching (following the same guidance as provided earlier re. The quality of sketching).  However, if you are confident with 3D CAD modelling software (such as SketchUp), you could use this as an alternative.
