You are now getting very close to the point where you will be making an accurate prototype of the design. However, you must be fully prepared before using up materials and your time. Using 3D modelling software (such as SketchUp), you should:
- Show views of the design which make it clear which materials you intend to use for each of the parts of the prototype which you will be making. (You can comment on alternatives available - and their advantages and disadvantages), but you must include a final decision.
- Include annotation which includes comments on which materials would be used in the manufacture of the product. (You can comment on alternatives available - and their advantages and disadvantages).
- Show how the components which make up the product will be assembled and joined. This is best done through an ‘exploded view’. (This can be achieved in SketchUp by simply pulling the separate component parts slightly away from each other). You must add additional detail where needed - these maybe details which were not visible on any earlier views (and therefore may not have been designed yet!).
- Include reference to any adhesives and / other joining methods (e.g. nuts & bolts; screws; pop rivets; welds) being used.
